Organic Geochemistry Lab

The Organic Geochemistry Lab operates several modern analytical laboratories for research and education. Our capacities have significantly been expanded by the establishment of our new mass spectrometer laboratory. This facility was equipped with financial support from the University of Göttingen and the Volkswagen Foundation, and is operated in association with the Applied Geology Group at the GZG. Our instrumentation includes:

  • Gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer (GC/MSn)
    (GC/MSn), Varian Saturn (ion trap).
  • Gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer
    (GC/MS/MS; Varian 1200 triple quadrupole)
  • Liquid chromatograph/mass spectrometer
    (LC/MS/MS; Varian 1200 triple quadrupole)
  • SDS-PAGE gel electrophoresis
  • 2D-gel electrophoresis
  • temperature programmable carbon analyzer (Leco)
  • CNS Elementar analyzer
  • From spring 2011: Hydropyrolysis rig (Strata) for analysis of kerogen-bound biomarkers
